constipation

Thanks you guys have been helpful. I know this is a little off topic but how do fish get dropsy? I always did water changes, always checked the water and had good results. Ammonia 0, nitrite 0, nitrate 15-20, and my ph was around 7.2. Gave a variety diet and everything. So how did he end up with dropsy?

i think dropsy is associated with a bacterial infection.. don't know how they get it too... i had 1 tiger barb that got it and water conditions were fine.. it was active, eating, and schooling with the other barbs even when it had dropsy but it died the next day.. luckily it didn't spread to the other barbs

gud luk to u if ur gonna try to :o treat it

Just thought ide update. Ive been reading on dropsy and also talked to the lfs guy, and im hoping my fish didnt have dropsy to begin with. Only part of his scales were raised(lfs guy said all of them must be raised to be dropsy) and he said he may have some sort of infection from parasites or bacteria. I treated tank with clout,maracyn2, raised salt level to .1%, and fed him medicated food. His scales are almost back to normal now. So he might still have a chance. :)

Good luck. Assuming he is in a separate tank, don't place him in the main tank for at least couple of weeks to make sure he is cured.
