I found a guy that is trying to sell a 75 G tank with metal stand, wet/dry filter with blue spikey ball filter (as he puts it), Fluval 303 canister filter, and some other odds and ends for a very good price. It was originally set up as a saltwater tank. Is it possible to convert it to a planted freshwater tank? I really want a larger tank and need to jump on this soon if i am going to get it and if its feasible to do. Just wanted some advice first. thanks

yeah very easily to do. My 45 gallon had a similar past. Just clean everything out really really well with warm water to disolve out the salt. Even the filter can be used again, you may want to buy new median. But everything will clean up well and you'll have ag reat tank.

It's almost all useable. If the fellow had a protein skimmer, it's unnecessary on a planted FW. Also, the Wet Dry with the Bio Balls (those are the blue spiky balls) is also likely not appropriate if it was an open system. It has the potential of gassing off CO2 the plants need. There is a very good chance you could sell the Wet/Dry separately and make back a little of what you spend, especially if it has everything in it.

Bio-Wheel?

I have a 29g saltwater tank that I'm planning on converting to freshwater. Can I continue to use the bio-wheel from my saltwater tank on my freshwater tank? I'll buy a new filter cardtridge for sure.

Yep, bio-wheels are actually better used in FW setups where evaporation isn't as big a concern. Unless this tank will include CO2 injection, the bio-wheel is fine.
