Hi, In the past I sucessfully kept up to 3 freshwater tanks at a time. I have been out of the hobby for about 5 years. Recently My daughter gave me her whole saltwater set-up. I want to set up a freshwater tank. I have thoroughly cleaned all equipment with vinegar and rinsed well. Is there anything else I should be doing to convert to a freshwater tank. I would also like to use her rock. Is this okay or might there be too much residue left in it that will be harmful?

After a good soaking in a mild bleach solution, I think it will be fine.

make sure to run the powerheads and filters in fresh water for a couple days, too.. you should be good after that.

I would not reuse the LR. Coraline is no good in a FW tank.

I also would not use the live rock from the saltwater setup. Even after what you think might be a decent cleaning, you just never know what may still be lurking in and on this rock. It may still have some nasties from the salty days. I think that the live rock is a no go. Other then that, using the tank from a previous saltwater setup should be fine as long as it is properly prepared for your freshwater setup.
