Converting snake tank fish tank

I had to buy my daugther an aquarium for her geckos. I bought her an aquarium meant for holding water 'cause I am waiting for the day when the tank is vacant and I can snatch it up. Isn't that terrible? Pre meditation.

lol! not terrible at all.

my kiddo is about to have a 6 gallon fluval edge tank set up in her room soon. it doesn't even have water in it yet and i'm already planning on what to do with it one day when she doesn't want it in her room any more.

If you measure the thickness of the glass, I'm sure someone here can verify whether or not it's a terrarium or an aquarium. I know I once found a site that had the standard thickness of aquarium glass (among many other tank stats). I'll see if I can find it again.

No matter what, always give a tank a test fill, outdoors. I let them sit overnight if they're new, a few days if they're used, and I would let it sit even longer if I thought it was a terrarium. Though it worthy of note that a terrarium may hold water for weeks or even month before it fails to hold water, so it's always best to know for certain before filling it indoors.

Not at all!

That's called thinking ahead, being prepared, planning for the future, and investing wisely. It won't matter to her, because at the point that you'd use it, she'd no longer have a use for it anyway! No point in buying an aquarium if you've already got one available to you. Now THAT would be terrible! :D

for smaller or long and skinny tanks, i use the bathtub for a fill test. i have two bathtubs, only one of which we use, so this works for me.

recently left a friends used 10 gal sitting filled in the spare tub for a week and a half. saltwater tanks can be such a pain to clean up for fw use! lol.

And what am I looking for to know if its dried out? Like if its breaking apart into pieces?

Yep it should have a nice smooth rubbery/soft surface, if its dried, cracked, peeling, or discolored I'd reseal it. Sometimes reptile waste can do some damage to the silicone.
