My girlfriend has a new convict cichlid and I think it looks lonely. Do the convicts like tankmates, and if so what kind would be good? Also, I guess it would be good to know if a ten gallon is sufficient for even a single convict? (supposedly they only get up to six inches but will it want more swimming room?)

I think a 10g might be a little to small for your girlfriends convict. It will probably be okay but a 15-20g would be better. As for tank mates the convict can be kept with some other south and central American cichlids such as fire mouths.
