the convicts i got a few weeks ago, as i have allready posted, have been acting strange for the past few days(see "strange convict behavior" thread) so this morning when they still were being a little strange, i decided to shine a flashlight in the females cave and sure enough, there were 2 small patches of eggs. Im very pleased and i managed to get some pics of the eggs which i will try to post sometime. the male is still acting skittish, and he doesnt seem to know that he has eggs to gaurd, but the female is being a very good mom. we shall see what happens from here. Thanks to everyone who helped me with my numerous questions.

Would love to see the pics!

eggs hatched allready

i guess they had eggs for a while before i noticed because they hatched and are sitting in the bottom of the cave so i cant see them. im pretty happy about this :)

Guys,

Just got a query about the fry...Once the eggs hatch, what do the fry feed on?

I had a pair of my cons breed a while ago and it was really interesting to see both parents care for them.

Unfortunately I lost them as they r in my african setup, and I guess the parents could only hold them off for soo long!

they eat off their egg sacks and once thats finished you could feed them newly hatched brine shrimp

you keep your cons in a mbuna setup?

The parents will feed the young at first by chewing up food into smaller pieces and then spit it out for the fry to eat. After of course they obsorb their yolk sack. You can feed them flakes when they get a little bigger or crushed up pellets. I feed my convict fry crushed cichlid pellets and aquatic insect larva.
