Convict eggs

The eggs should be a pale see-through pink. When an egg has completely turned white it means it has fungus. The parents both gaurd and fan the eggs...so this won't happen a lot.

Umm, since you're Convicts are new at this they may not succuessfully have fry the first couple of times. Usually the female stays near the eggs while the male gaurds the area. However, they do take turns.

I have never seen a male not let the female near the nest, but I have seen some females get very protective and make the male keep his distance. They both share the duties and both will work together to drive back a larger foe.

:) Just keep an eye on them for now.

Like I said, they are new at this. My first pair of Zebra Convicts had three 'practice spawns' before they finally had a success. Unless one is getting really beat you shouldnt have to seperate them.

As to why they are acting this way...the male may not trust her enough. Maybe she did eat some of the eggs. I remember one pair of Convicts I had, the male didnt want the female around and he ended up raising the fry himself.

In any case, just give it more time. Have fun watching them and learning :) It's definately a cool experience. Once you do have fry, I recommend leaving the parents with them...that is, if you want to see the parents raise the young. It can be really cute :) :)

Plus, if you remove all of the fry one of the parents may kill the other! Just be aware, once they "get it right" you will not have a shortage of convicts!
