Convict fry are free swimming..what next?

A pantyhose would cover the filter intake just fine. I just had my first batch eggs and of fries of Texas. As I keep only africaneers, this is new to me.

I am enjoying the swarm immensely. I am planning to syphon off some of the fries whenthey get a bit hardier. I will leave plenty for the parents to look after. if you take all of the fry. One of the parents may think that the other have eatent he fries and could kill the other one! :( Size and gender does not matter in this revenge scenareo). My friend is growing up the remaining of his fries, about 7 in a one galloner and they are all over one inch now.

it is best to have some fast predators to minimize the number of the fries growing up. As it would be a major hastle to raise them in time and tank sapce, not to mention to give them a way to a good home.

As it is I have a small (2 inch) brave albino socolofi who keeps trying to get close enough to hunt the fries! :) A two inch socolofi is not a match for a 4 and 6 inch brooding Texas! But he thinks he can handle them and likes the excitement of it!

The swarm is about 150 fries. All I want is to have 6-10 fries left which will be growing up with africanners. the parents have grown up with africanners and use to them.

If anyone in southern CA wants the grown up pair. Let me know they will be available in 3-4 weeks.

haha thanks guys i managed to scoop up 17 i counted, and theres still tons to go :-) i have them in a breeder net in th 15g, and i will put pantyhose over the filter once i let them out of the net. thanks for all the info guys. also i have fry powder food that i soak in water and then put into the aquarium.

Just a personal opinion, but if you can breed convicts you should look to trying some more challenging or less common species (kribs, rainbows, etc.). The world is already too well-supplied with convicts, due to their known proclivity to reproduce and overproduce.
