My two cons just had eggs like a day ago and there already turnin color so i have to start preparing for the fry. What should i do and how should i prepare? Any suggestions. 29g tank with just the two cons in the tank.

Let them do thier thing. In the past I got some liquifry food for the babies, but it turned out to be a waste of money. They will eat finely crushed flake foods. If you have a strong filter intake you can cover it with a sponge, but Ive never had a problem with them getting sucked up into mine. If there are other tankmates you might want to remove them, as they will get thier buts kicked for any wrong move. These fish are good parrents, and part of thier allure is observing that behavior.

I am looking to get convicts at some point in the future as well, and so I hope that Buddy will find my questions (and hopefully their resulting answers) to be relevant to his concerns..

At what point would it be safe to separate the new generation of convicts from their parents without the parents killing each other?

Will the parents continue to spawn while their babies are hanging around? Do they care only for the latest spawn, or for all babies that they've had?

Thanks everyone!

IME they are ok to be separated as early as 1/4 inch. After a few weeks the parrents will be less involved with them, not completely detached, just not as protective as before. Again, this is just my experience, but I have found they will actually eat the fry from a previous batch shortly before thier next spawn.
