Someone help, my convicts have gone made. I am new with this fish thing and am trying to breed convicts. I have a male and female, (at least one has and orange spot on its belly) anyways, how do I know if they like eachother. The male chases the female (both are about the same size) and earlier I saw the female shaking her body at the male, then he would come out and puff out his gills, which to my surprise were a dark blue. Does this mean they'll have babies? I don't have a clue what I am doing.

Lost with fish

sounds like they are breeding, add a clay pot into the tank. Convicts are cave breeders also do water changes with cooler water, this has always works for me. Add a few clay pots if you can they will move the fry once they are wigglers and free swiming. What size is the tank? anything else in the tank?

Thanks

Thank you for the advice, since they are only about 2.5 inches each, right now I have them in a 10 gallon, I had a Livingstonii in there, but I moved him out. How many fry can I expect, do a lot of them die?

You can expect a hundred babies, give or take. But they might eat a few batches of fry before they get it right....but once they do most if not all of the fry should live.
