Ok I have 2 Cryptosheros Septumfasciatus (Convicts) that are about 2.5 inches each that I have in a 16 gallon bowfront. Well lately they have started to completely rearrange the tank they have been moving mouthful's of sand all day long everyday for about 3 days. I am unable to tell which fish is female and which is male but one of them has this tube looking thing in front of its anal fin. And I was just curious what it is. That one also keeps going into one of the clay flower pots that I have in the tank and swimming around in circles in side the pot. They also kept biting the **** out of me when I was rearrange there tank so yeah any help with this would be awesome. Thanks in advance.

haha.
you're witnessing the inevitable.

indeed they are quite probably mating. i would suggest you avoid moving anything around in the tank.. they're "babyproofing" the house and setting up the cradle.

fortunately for you, there's nothing you have to do except keep up with your regular water changes (in a 16 gallon i'd probably do 50% per week.. to make sure its nice and clean for when the babies arrive)
feed regularly, keep the temp the same as usual, and don't change anything.. they'll do the rest by themselves 8)

That happened to me when mated except when I rearranged the tank they just went to the other side. Mines a 55g though so there was space. They dug at least 10 holes in the sand, and they just moved everything. It was fin to watch but a pain to fix later lol. I ended up removing the fry to a 10g and put the mother in there because they were getting too protective and fighting other fish. They're living in there happily for now, planning on putting them in a 30 soon.
