I was watching my tank earlier today and noticed one of the ghost shrimp poking around some plants...

suddenly, he pulled a short little worm out of the gravel, wrestled with it for a moment, then started to much it down at the abdomen.

it was certainly cool, but.. I didn't know i had worms.. should I be worried?

Wow thats pretty cool. It caught a worm and it didn't come out of the shrimp? I mean like the parasite worm.

Have you ever fed with live worms? T(he)y could have come from plants, previously used gravel, or previously used decorations... I doubt it's parisitic. Look here. This user's had problems with worms http://www.aquariacentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=147694 Do they look like that?

lately i have heard of people with worms in there tank...you could do more frequent gravel vacs if your concerned

Yes... If there's more worms, they'll probably come up in the vac.

That's what I love about ghost shrimp. I think they're the best "leftover cleaner" shrimp that is commonly available. My CRS and RCS usually just ignore the fish flakes or worms that fall into my tank.
My ghost shrimp however, will viciously attack worms that get away from my fish. They don't always get all the tubifex worms though :( but still, they keep the number of escapees low and don't end up with a worm farm in my tank. Not to mention I think it's fascinating to watch them scrounging around for leftover food.
