So in the never ending quest to plan out my next tank I was wondering what sort of loach might fit into this setup.

I was planning on a 33 gallon tank, planted, with a school of 5 rosey barbs, a school of 5-7 white cloud minnows, and possibly my 3 cories which I would probably add 1 or 2 more to the group. I was looking at keeping the tank temp around 70-72F as my current coolwater setup is (same fish without the rosey barbs).

What loach would fit well in this setup and would it require a school as well. I know there are coolwater loaches but do they get too big for this tank? Thoughts, ideas?

Weather loaches would work--I have mine in a tank that stays around 70-74. He's the most active fish in the tank. They will school, but at 7-8 inches, would be a pretty significant load for your tank--I'd go with just one. They are amazing jumpers, so make sure the tank is very well covered.

Thanks. I was thinking about those guys but didn't know if they needed a school or not to be happy like some of the other loaches.

Do these guys go by other names as well?

Dojo is the other common name for them. Mine is quite active, very healthy, been by himself his entire life. He used to be in with my eel, and he would try to buddy up with the eel, but the eel never really liked the loach. Otherwise, he's been in with a bunch of bottom dwellers (cories, chocolate pleco, paradise fish, otos) with no problems. He likes to drape himself over things, like bettas often do, and loves burying himself in the java moss.

Excellent, I think I finally have my tank all planned out. Now I just need to wait to see the job situation and I will be able to get this thing up and running.

I would be careful with "dojo" loaches in a planted tank....

When I had them they dug like crazy!!!

a hillstream loach might be what you're looking for here, as well. these prefer cooler water, do not require schools (though they ignore conspecifics IME). the only potential problem with these is that they enjoy a pretty thorough current. if you overfiltrate a little bit, i think this would be to their satisfcation.

dojos are really cool, too though!
