Hello all...Am just about finished the construction of my new hood and i was wondering what peoples thoughts were as to where the cooling fans should be located...

I am going to be using 4 80mm computer fans..2 at one sucking in, 2 at the opposite end blowing out..

My question is...Should they be above the halide lights, or below them?

heat rises, so i would say above..this will keep the wires, fixtures from overheating more efficiently..

Blue

Iwould be in agreement with Blue there, though I've heard that a fan pullin the air out rather than in will fail much sooner due to the salt and moisture being pulled through the fan.

if thats the case would you really need the 2 sucking the air out? why not just have 4 pushing air in at one end with an opening at the other? really the air should just blow straight out that end, kinda like having doors open at opposite ends of the house, wind blows in one end, and straight out the other

If you put all 4 at one end I would but 2 under the light and 2 over the light. Just to cool the lights and the wires.

quite a feasable solution that...the wires as such wont really be an issue as they are routed straight out of the back of the hood..but, putting two under the lights is surely just going to circle the hot air around inside the canopy between the lights and water surface and have nowhere to go? would that o defeat the object of cooling? or am i not understanding you right matey?
