Cops: Mom forces son to kill hamster for bad grade

for all of those in this thread that responded by suggesting violence towards the mother..... does that really solve things? responding to violence with more violence is not the answer, IMO.

I agree. I feel what she needs is some therapy and she should be taught about animal cruelty and why it's not acceptable...ever.

I can't say anything that hasn't been said already about the mother and the likely irreparable harm she did her child. Few people are able to go through trauma like that as a child and turn it it into a positive as an adult. But the fact that so many posters felt the need to express outrage about a hamster and not even mention the child disturbs me. If the animal was killed with a single blow it wasn't even cruelty imo. But that child has and will continue to suffer immensely.

It makes me wonder if feeding rats and mice to snakes is okay... I mean you knock them on the head to kill them first?
Also, I think the "trauma the child will experience" is overplayed. I mean it's not like he's going to suffer from ptsd or be scarred for life. The woman did something stupid and there is obviously some messed up thinking involved there. She probably needs help.

Wow, this is just so sad, not just for the animal, but especially for the psychological trauma she put the child through. this was a pet the child was attached to and loved. Being forced to kill something you love is traumatic and the mother probably got some sick thrill out of it. I hope that kid makes it in life, after having lived through 12 years with a mother who no doubt put him through hell. Glad the kid had the sense to tell a responsible adult who could get help.

I cried when I read this article. I can't even begin to think of the scaring this child has experienced. I can only hope that he will be given to the custody of someone who will love him and care for him. As for the mother-- I believe there will be retribution for anyone who is this intentionally cruel to a child or to an animal. Just my personal belief system.

im sorry but i completly disagree with you, first off killing a mouse or rat to feed a snake is different. You arent killing an animal that you obviously love as a punishment. This is going to teach a child a lesson that WILL affect them for the rest of their life... no question, not saying that it will cause this child to become a serial killer or anything. But it will affect them.

Of course it's ok to feed mice and rats to a snake. It's what many snakes eat. And at least in the case of non-venomous snakes a quick blow to the head or snapping the neck of the prey animal is a much quicker and humane death than the slow suffocation caused by constriction, let alone getting eaten by something like an Indigo that grabs a prey animal and bashes it against the side of the enclosure, or just swallows it alive. Yet another person more concerned with the vermin than the human. Sad.

I heard that if he fails a whole grade he has to kill the neighbors. We should pitch in and get the kid a tutor...
