i found my coral banded shrimp dead this morning with it's arm claw ripped off. could salinity been a factor? i did a water change the day b4 and added freshwater so i can lower my salt level which was 1.025 and now 1.022 -1.023. plus i dont feed it anything, i just have live rock and live sand for it =o

Since I've seen it often enough, I have to ask if you are sure the "corpse" is not just a shed molt? If it has actualy died, then yes, sudden salinity and/or pH changes are dangerous for invertebrates, specialy shrimp. I would also caution about getting too low on your salinity, 1.023 is fine, but I would not go lower than that.

Why did you lower your salinity? While 1.023 certainly won't outright kill anything, as Chuck said, it also isn't really ideal, either. I would shoot between 1.025-1.027, with 1.0264 s.g. being full-strength natural seawater (at 77 degrees)

As someone has already said are you sure its not just a molt? I have one and when he molts it looks just like the real thing color and all. If it did just molt you might not see it for a day or two.
