I bet that's an awesome toadstool leather when it looks normal. Pretty sizeable one, too. That's a lot of Xenia you've got there!

Can you please post your tank's parameters, specs, etc.?
Any recent changes in your tank?
How much flow does the leather receive?
Are the polyps (spines) coming out less and less where the brown slime has come off, or is it the other way around?

It may just be shedding (completely normal). Did it look waxy before all this started happening?

H water prams as follows
ph 8.1
sal 0.024
kh .9dkh
nitrite 0.03mg/l
nitrate 7mgl
amonia o.07mgl
i have had the setup for 4 weeks and having to try and get the phosphate down using phosguard, also calcium quite low at 280 using turbo calcium at the rate of 1/8 teaspoon a day??
7 gallon a week 100% r/o water change with ocean salt 0.024
2 lts a day pure r/o water
pls advise thanx

sounds like it's shedding. toadstools as well as some other leathers will retract their polyps and look pretty ugly for a few weeks. the slim coming off is pretty normal when they shed. They will do this every few weeks.
that woudl be my first guess.

It is shedding, mine does the exact same thing, mine is totally shed right now, dont worry about it unless it does not grow back.

here it is right now totally shed:
