coral life RO unit ?'s

I don't recall where the flow restrictor is located on the coralife units. I used one of these units in the past, but I don't think I ever looked for it. The units themselves are ok, but the stock filters, membrane, and resin are sub-par, IMHO.

you say the filters are sub par, are there better filters and membrane that I can use in this unit seeing how I already have the system? Thanks for all the help Amphiprion and Fsn77.

I'm not sure what cartridge / membrane combination comes standard with those RO units, but I've come to prefer replacement cartridges from The Filter Guys (www.thefilterguys.biz). The municipal water supply here uses chloramines, so I purchase a 5 um sediment filter and two carbon cartridges designed for use when the tap water contains chloramines. I also use the DI resin sold by The Filter Guys. I still have the original RO membrane (100 gpd) from when I initially purchased my RO/DI unit, but the Dow Filmtec 75gpd RO membranes are highly regarded in the marine hobby for their high removal efficiency while maintaining a good rate of production. Once it's time to replace our RO membrane, I'll be switching to a Filmtec 75gpd. It is important to note that if you change to a RO membrane with a different flow rating, the flow restrictor will likely need to be replaced as well to match the rated flow of the new RO membrane.

I get all my replacements, minus the sediment cartridge, from thefilterguys, as well. I prefer their prices on the Matrikx Chlorine guzzler .6 um carbon block (rated for 20000 gallons) and their semiconductor grade resins, which are vastly superior to the more common nuclear grade DI resins. They also have a high phosphate/silicate removal resin that I like to use. For sediment, I use www.buckeyefieldsupply.com 's .2 um absolute rated sediment cartridges. Seems as though they'd clog quickly, but their corrugated design allows up to 10x the surface area, so that last a bit longer without reducing pressure.

well for the mean time while I look into these other filters I went last night and got a new membrane and now the flow is good again. Strange, even my lfs said that the membrane should have lasted longer. Anyways thanks again for your help
