Here goes another coraline algae question....is it normal for algae on new liverock to fade away within a few weeks while new algae grows on other rocks simutaneously?> i.e rock in tank prior to new rock added

Everything else is fine....just want to grow good algae crop

Thanks

It's certainly possible. Depending on the lighting the rock was subjected to before, once placed in your tank there can be some die off of coralline. Many shops keep rock under minimal lighting, and going from lower light to higher light can cause some of the coralline to die off. Different colors of coralline tend to have their own light level preference. The deeper reds tend to grow in lower light (and even on the under side of rocks in caves / ledges in brighter tanks), while purple and pink are more mid-level light, and green coralline prefers brighter light.
