I have a 29 gal saltwater tank and I'm wanting to start adding things like corals or possibly anemones to it?

I was wondering what's good for starters and what kind of lighting I should get (being that it's a relatively small tank at only 29 gallons)?

Specie names or something I can ask for at the LFS would be great, and suggestions on lighting is also much appreciated.

Also, how do I attach them to the live rock that's in the tank or how would I go about adding them?

All of this in the most basic and infantile terms would be best understood :)

Thanks SO MUCH!

What type of corals do you want to have? That in itself plays a big part in recommending a lighting system.

Personally, I wouldn't recommend an anemone to a beginner, especially in a tank as small as a 29g.

Most corals come with a bit of extra skeleton (LPSs), on a frag plug, or pre-attached to a small piece of live rock. From there, they can just be placed in the tank as is, or held in place more securely with some super glue gel / underwater reef safe epoxy.

uhhh...not even sure what kind of corals there are :\

any recommendations for someone who has no idea what their getting into?

Yep start with Robert Fenners The Conscientious Marine Aquarist: A Commonsense Handbook for Successful Saltwater Hobbyists then get Aquarium Corals : Selection, Husbandry, and Natural History by Eric H. Borneman. Roberts book is for the every day person and teaches you a lot about our hobby. The Corals book will then take you specifically into the world of corals.

hope that helps.

Or hang around here and ask a lot of questions.

i was just wondering what other people have had the best luck with in this size tank and what kind of lighting they had

thanks for the starter coral ideas though Reaves

BTW I wasn't trying to give you a shove off or anything, but you asked where was a good place to start.. Both of those books have a wealth of info that I consider to be vital to any person wanting to establish a reef tank.

oh I understand, no worries

thanks very much for the suggestions though

but was more hoping for personal experiences than books was all...
