Hey, I was thinking of getting two corals-- right now all I have in there is some polyps and those are absolutely fine. These are the lights I have ---http://www.shopping.com/xPO-CURRENT-USA-INC-Current-USA-Nova-Extreme-T5HO-X2-10K-460nm-Actinic-Saltwater-30-2x24W-1137

Here are the two corals I'm thinking about getting-- to my understanding they both flourish better in higher lighting but my lights should be adequate for them and they should adjust.

What do you guys think, will these things be alright in my tank. From what I've read they are both relatively hardy!

Thanks a ton for any help!!!

i dk about the montipora, i feel like you would need a higher wattage but well see what someone else has to say

Definately ok on the first coral, second one is questionable. Montiporas don't require "intense" lighting but they do need good lighting... and the light you want is right at the line of what I would consider questionable. Personally, I wouldn't try it, but that doesn't mean it won't work. Also note that the auction is for a "Frag" of that monti, not the entire monti you see in the picture. You will get something the size of your fingernail for that price.

With acceptable lighting, yes, it will grow, but it in an underlit tank it may not grow all that quickly or seemingly not at all. (Sorry, I can't see the exact variety of Montipora you're looking to buy as eBay is blocked where I'm viewing your post from.) Keep in mind that with lighting that is not ideal, the color of any coral can and many times will be different compared to the same coral being kept in a tank with more appropriate lighting.

Also, be cautious of pix posted on eBay of corals (or anywhere else), as sellers often adjust the colors to make the coral look better than it really is. Since I cannot view the listing right now, I'm not able to say anything about the particular listings you posted, but definitely look for info in the listing regarding the type of lighting (wattage, color temp. of the bulbs, etc.) the photo was taken under as it can make a huge difference in how the coral appears. Not all sellers doctor up their pix, but it's because of the few that do that it's become something to watch out for. Quite simply, anyone can take photos that make corals seem like they're glowing by just having some decent actinic lighting on for the pic, but that's not really what the coral is going to look like most of the day when the daylight group of bulbs is on.

Here is a pic for ya.

My thought is that these are corals that are pretty commonly available in many LFSs. They appear cheap on eBay before you factor in the shipping costs, but once you do I doubt if they would cost any less than what you'd pay from a LFS. Plus, there are sites I would buy corals from sight unseen, but eBay is not one of them. JMO. Then again, I live in an area where the local reef club makes many coral species available to me locally. I also agree that the monti would do better under more intense lighting.
