i finally got cories for my 10 gallon.
i wanted to get 3, but he had 4 left and i didnt want one to be lonely. so i got all 4!
its just them and an old betta in there. they're soo incredibly active its awesome to watch!

they seem to spend not too much time on the bottom of the tank, but rather swimming around. is this normal? i thought they usually stayed on the bottom.

thanks!

Sounds normal to me, especially for new fishies checking things out. Got pics?

Good call on 4 vs 3. They are fun to watch & will give some life to the lower part of the tank. I have 12 in a 30G breeder, about the same depth as your 10G. They mostly occupy the lower half, with occasional pops to the surface. They seem happier in groups.

I agree with rb,...give 'em a week or so to get settled in.

ok i just took some quick pictures. please excuse the blurriness, amateur-ness and all that about them :)
but you get the idea, they're tiny and they never stop moving.

I just put 4 cories in with my male betta. The betta did not like his new tank mates - but could not catch them.
For the first 2 days it was constant chasing - but the cories learned quickly. If they swim into the current from the filter, the betta gets 'blown off course' when the current hits his long flowing fins.
I think the cories do it now just for fun.
The betta has calmed down some - it half hearted attempts at catching the cories now - but it is still funny to watch.

I put a betta in with my cories but had to move them after he took a chunk out of ones dorsal fin:eek:
He's since healed up fine and they are all happier in the bigger tank anyway.

i think my bettas too old to really care too much. i had ghost shrimp in with him before and the shrimp would eat his tail.
he watches the cories but has never flared or tried to chase them. one of the bigger cories actually rammed into him head first and the betta didnt even move. i think he likes the company =)

Wow, sounds like a pretty mellow betta. My husband named mine Brutus because he's such a bully. He flares at anything and everything! I can't keep anything but full grown apple snails with him. I have some smaller snails that came in with some plants I bought and he sucks them right out of thier shells (which is fine by me!)

As for your cories, mine are all over the tank. Very active and fun to watch!

Cool...looks like albino C.aeneus (bronze cory if not albino) I have 8 of those and 3 of the 'bronze' (looks green to me) in my 30G...never a dull moment!
