cory barbell bruising

k what about this idea- my gravel is a little low so i had been meaning to add more what if instead i add sand so that thers is a mix of the two- will that improve things or does the gravel have to go completely-my plants are rooted. . .soo

Do what you like. Sand will sift to the bottom of gravel and gravel will be on the top and form a nice compact layer.

Oh and make sure you don't get sharp sand. Silca based sand is quite sharp indeed if you would like to look at it under a microscope. We use it at work to blast corrosion off of metal.

The day my cories loose their nice large barbels from gravel (which they have been sifting through for over 3 years) I will come back and tell you.

I use rough peastone gravel in my tank, bought at a garnden store.

Well obviously you do not have the same type of gravel that causes harm to cories barbells. I and others have experienced it first hand. Until you have tried every form of gravel substrate out there, you cannot cliam that it WILL NOT damage cories barbels.

I keep my panda cories in a tank with regular pet store grade gravel, and, though I've never seen them burrowing their heads in the substrate, they all have nice barbels and generally seem in good health. When I bought them it never even crossed my mind that gravel might not be good for them, but since they seem to be cool with things as they are, I just decided to leave well enough alone. *shrug*
