So my big female is in a frenzy trying to lay her eggs. Only problem is when she get some layed the odessa barbs are right behind her eating them up. Can i pull her from the 30 and stick her in a 20long without interupting her breeding? I would love to try to raise some of the fry.
Thanks in advance.

Hmmm yea may just have to nix this batch. This is the 2nd time in about 2 weeks she has decided to start laying eggs. Last time when i finally noticed and went to try to move the eggs the odessa's were already at work cleaning them up. This time i just happen to notice her starting to lay so i figured i might be able to pull her and have her finish laying in the 20long. Not sure which of the males to pull with her if i do, there are 2 following her around consantly. Gonna try to get some pics of this, its freaking wild to a first timer.

Ok so she managed to get some laid on the upper leaves of my amazon sword that the barbs havent found yet, i can trim the leave and move it to the 20long and no damage the eggs? Or would it be better to leave them and see if nature will work itself out? Im sooooooo geeked out about this!!!

Cut the top off of a 1 gallon water jug and put an air stone and methylene blue in it. Put the leaf in there. You can likely hatch them in there then move to the 20 long.

Both males could be spawning with her, so I'd put them all together.

Ok so the feeding frenzy has died down and she is still laying eggs, she has some on the front and side panes of my glass and the barbs are leaving them alone. I remember reading somewhere you can remove them after they have had time to harden, how can you tell when this has happened? Whats the best way to do this, as in what to use to remove them? Best i can muster atm to house them is a 2 liter bottle i use to store water for my diy co2, will this work instead of a 1 gallon jug? What about heating the water in the 2liter if it works, is this neccessary? LOL sorry about the barrage of questions, im just really exicted about the possibility of raising some lil guys. Also im guessing this means my tank is pretty healthy and on the right track, only took about 9-10months or so but im happy now that im seeing the results of my hard work.

You can also move the eggs, they are fairly hardy. I have moved them straight away using a turkey baster or my finger. They are a bit tougher after a few hours but they tend to make it either way.

Ok so this is what i have setup to house the eggs till they hatch. 1gallon jug with air stone and heater. I used tank water to fill the jug, should i add anything else? Ive read that the eggs hatch fairly quickly, 3-4days, is this true? Will the fry <if they hatch> be ok in the 20long with a betta and ghost shrimp? Im all giddy:hitting:
