Cory schooling

Just a quick question out of curiousity. Will different varieties of cories school together? Or do they need to be roughly the same size, or the same variety?

Its better if you keep the same kind together. Right now I have 5 peppered and 1 three lined cory. They sold them all as julii but I got them ID'd here. The peppered hang out together while the three lined is mostly alone. Occasionally she'll join the group but she tends to be on her own. Same thing happened when I had 5 glo fish and 1 zebra danio. Despite them all being zebra danio the true danio didn't hang out much with the glo fish. IMO I don't advise you to mix and match like that.

My pandas and sterbai hang out together, they actually divide up into mixed cliques. I put them in together in either tank occasionally and they do this every time. Although the sterbai are more active, they NEVER stop. Oddly, they tend to do the cory 'wave' across the front of the tank much more when mixed together then separated into conspecific groups.

My pandas, sterbai, julli and schwartzi hang out together and are all over the place. Oftentimes, they perfectly line up at the front side of the tank as if they were doing some military drill.

In contrast, my peppers and bronze cories stick with their own species. In the past, they were with the pandas, sterbai and julli in a tank and never played with them.

I have 4 albinos, 2 pandas, 2 peppered and 3 emeralds and they school together. Sometimes the bigger emeralds will do their mating dance and the others don't follow, but when they settle, they school with all the others.
