As, I have stated on here before I have two Corydoras and 3 average sized tetras in my 10 gallon tank.

I went a couple of weeks without changing water (I have been cycled for awhile). I check on my fish daily but the Corys often hide and I cant' always see them. I finally noticed one day that there is only one Corydora in my tank!!!

I figure he is just hiding so I change the water and vacuum the gravels and he's still nowhere to be seen. I have looked and looked and I am 100% sure that he's gone. I don't understand what happened. If he died it seems like I would have seen him floating or on the filter. The tetras are not big enough to eat him. I thought he might have burrowed under the rocks and died but when vacuuming I saw no proof of this. I never saw any sign of decay in the tank.

What gives??

LOL.......Doug....another mystery of the disappearing corys !

I have experienced the same thing with cories. Twice it happened to me and both time I never saw a trace of them.

I had 3 panda cories in a 29 tank with a pair of blue rams and a pair of dwarf grouramis. I check my fish several times every day and this one day I noticed one cory missing...looked EVERYwhere in the tank....it is not possible for him to have jumped out as the top is completely covered...no gaps except where the filter outlet is...and even there there's no room unless the little guy could swim upstream like a salmon and not get cought on the edge of the plastic there.

I finally gave up looking for it.........then I moved the two I had left to my black and white tank........and then got another cory to replace the one that went missing...........again ! The same thing happened in THAT tank ! The new cory disappeared within a week of purchasing it. Not a trace of it anywhere, and I took EVERYthing out of the tank and looked in all the nooks and crannies of all the decorations, filter, etc....nothing. I noticed him gone right away too....and never saw a trace of him...no way those fish could have eaten it up so fast that I never saw any of the leftovers !

Anyway, I gave up trying to keep 3 cories...the two I have seem happy enough to be just a pair....apparently third wheels are not welcome with these two !

Yep, I had a panda disappear a few weeks ago.
I just thought the other corys (bandit, couple peppers, one other panda) and otos (had about 12 of them - QT) ate the body. :(

LOL. I thought this post was absolutely bupkiss before this morning. I have 6 cories (3 julii and 3 schwarzii). All get along quite nicely. They share the tank with 6 zebra danios for now (it's a 55 gallon). So, last night, I counted to make sure I have all my fish and everyone is cool. This morning, I check my tank and I count only 5 cories.

I'm thinking, great. I mentally chuckle at what seems to be a ludicrous post and know it happens to me. Kharmic retribution? I thought maybe. So, I start searching the tank. I take apart the rock cave I have..........nope, just a julii. I swish around the plants......nada. I check behind rocks..........just the other schwartzii and and a julii.

Where the hell is this guy? I check all around the outside of the tank.....nothing. I've had experiences when I was younger where cory's had leaped clear of the tank and fallen to the ground. No cory on the floor (my cat could have eaten him but he's too picky so that was unlikely). In a last ditch effort, I run my fingers around the inside lip of the tank and check the undersurface of the light.......maybe he somehow got stuck??????? Nothing.

I'm perplexed. I do another count. Still 5. I walk away for a few minutes, contemplating whether or not I should buy a new one. I come back and.......presto. 6 corys. I have no idea where the other one could have been. I suppose he could have burrowed but, he's not that big and I have a medium sized gravel. Would they burrow into that? Anyway, I have them all but, man, was that wierd.

My cory's missing too

Me too, My only cory went missing. No sign of him. I once found him in my pipes that I use for air filtering, poor thing was stuck in there for about 4 days. He's not in there this time.

Hi,

You need to get more Cories. They are very social fish and should be kept in groups.

One time one of my Paradise Fish (Cutie-Cake) went missing. I looked every where! Under shells, rocks, in the filter, every where! Then one time when I was trying to catch some baby fish, I turned over a shell (looked under that one before too) and there was a slimy and decomposing body under it! She must have went deep, deep in the shell and I never saw her when I lifted it up earlier.

ive had oodles and oodles of fish gone missing...mostly small fancy guppies, if they are small and are ill they get gobbled up by the tank monster. Once i did a oopsy, and was cleaning my tank and took out all the stuff, as i'm refilling the tank i notice.....where the loach? i look at the bare tank amazed, then turn to the castle decor in the sink and think oh noooo, his favorite hiding place.i lift it up and there he is in the sink, i plop him back in the tank and hes alive and well today, it seems he was in the tiny tiny chimney of the castle, hiding. ok i'm rambling ....oh and once mi sis lost her molly and it took us four hours till i noticed the very tip of the tail in a tiny shell decor, we had to break the shell gently to get him out.
