I've read that cories are more sensitve to nitrates than a lot of other fish. How much is too much? I try to keep it under 20 ppm, is 20 ppm to high for corys?
I think it would depend on the species in determining how much is to much but basicly the less the better. I doubt that under 20 ppm would bother them much as that is a pretty insignifigany number but how ofter do you do water changes? Also what size tank and what is the stock of it? You can ussually keep them closer to 10 with proper maintainance. Another good option is putting some plants in your tank. Even if its just some easy low lights they will suck up the nitrates.
high nitrates are not good for any fish, and i dont let mine go higher than 12, though i cant imagine 20 doing much harm to them. corydoras are pretty resiliant little fish. they are kind of like little tanks
It is a 20 gallon high aquarium.. I have 6 platys, a betta, and 2 sterba's cories (adding 3 more soon, in quarantine). I have some java moss also in quarantine that I will likely add once I've determined there are no stowaways. I do a 25-50% water change weekly.
