hey now,

today i just purchased three "emerald" cories. I have researched them and now I realize they can grow to be 4 inches!? whew...the three are sharing a 10 gallon with a honey gourami. Will the onyx sand be okay for their barbells?

I acclimated them for a half hourdoing the drip method, and put in a sinking wafer and they are ravenously going at that wafer! Its the hikari brand. So I am happy to see them eating. They look nice and healthy.

So onyx sand gonna be okay for them? If not i will take them back

barbels are the little "whiskers" on a catfish.

also on Koi.

In my experience cories won't grow 4 inches. You will be okay with 3 in a 10 as long as the bottom of the tank has room for them to swim around. I have 3 cories that are about 2.5 inches each and they haven't grown any in my 30 so you should be fine.

"Emerald cories" are Brochis, not Corydorus, and definitely get substantially larger than the ordinary Cory.

I'd consider a 10 too small for any Brochis. The Onyx sand is not a problem.

thanks

thanks for the replys all,

Yeah RTR I read up on that. I first though I would keep them till they got bigger then take them back, but I decided I am gonna take them back tomorrow. Thats what u get when u see a good deal at petco. And I wondered why the peppered corys were three dollars more a fish.

take care,
