Cost of snails??

One of my rules for shopping is don't buy from an LFS that puts a price on Pond snails
In all seriousness, apple snails and ramshorn or mystery snails I would gladly pay for if I wanted them. I've seen some of the big apple snails around here for as much as $25.00 most ramshorn, and mystery snails are between 2 and 5 dollars I have never seen a price on MTS's, but was ready to pay for them since they are hard to find around here. I did eventually discover them somewhere that gives them away. Pond snails are considered by many to be a scourge, I get them for free at every LFS I've been to exept one which charges $.25 That particular LFS sells a lot of loaches and a lot of puffers so I imagine they have need for a good in house population as well as many regular customers who request snails. As someone said buy a bunch of cheap plants, they will be loaded with snails and eggs most times.

thanks everyone.......I went back down to the LFS today and they gave me medium sized pond snails (I think....they were not marked anywhere) for .99 each! A big difference from the 3.69 I was quoted the other day! I think they try and get what they can for them.........it's a business right!?

I bought some snails once, 3 for about $8 which wasn't so bad at the time, but now I am feeding them for puffers and I need alot. I was doing really good for awhile. My mystery snail 'Butcher' was living in a fish bowl full of plants and practically shooting out spawn. Sadly, at just 2 inches in size, and nearly a year old, he died. The other snails are too small, and aren't reproducing. I guess I need to go buy three more. I always have to buy in threes though, because two always die. No matter where I put them.
