I just pulled a gelatin cube(food for my snails) out of my tank because I Noticed my betta had been just sitting there pigging out! His belly is very bloated, and he's hanging out in that area looking for more :P

I think he'll be alright, but I'm wondering; Had I not pulled the cube out, would he have continued to eat until I found him belly-up?

Fish are opportunistic and will often not stop until they become too bloated. This can lead to digestion problems. Control his feeding. If I were you, fast him a day or two per week.

Bettas tend to overeat. Mine overate, and by pulling him out whenever I fed the frogs, he stayed at an acceptable weight. However, he was still really good at finding leftovers. Their kidneys can fail over time from this.

Yes, I know it's not good for him to overeat and that's why I Pulled the cube out. He had ignored it for quite some time, but the snails hadn't gone for it yet so I hadn't taken it out yet.

I do fast him the odd day, and I plan to for a day or two after this :P I also give him a pea every once in a while, he seems to enjoy tearing it up and carrying it around the tank.

Just don't mess with his wisteria. He'll bite you. No, really. It doesn't hurt or anything, but it startled me :P

My sister's betta is a fatty. Good thing I taught her how to feed him, now he isn't as bloated. Bettas will overeat until they are on the brink of tearing their stomach open.

yep, bettas are greedy little fish, only one i've ever had that was worse was my sunfish, he was so full of food that his had little bits of it coming out of his gills and he still tried to grab the wafter that i was feeding to my catfish, which he couldn't eat because he still had the other 2 in his mouth that he couldn't swallow. i've also seen bettas look like they swallowed a marble when they're done feeding.

I would also, make sure to feed him that pea at least once a week. Mine gets one 2x a week usually. Also, make sure to break it into smaller more bite size pieces, or he may have trouble with it. (i love feeding them by 'hand')
