i can't seem to find a good hood for the size tank I want. They seem to fat to do so but I could be surprised. They would be Oranda and ryukin. Thanks!

All fish can jump out. Some species are more prone to it. You can always have glass custom cut to size. That said, I have tanks that aren't covered, and some that have a plant 'cover' in the form of floating plants or long leaved plants that cover the surface. Yes, there are still jumpers. I've also have 4 inch fish find the single half inch gap and get through it.

Yes, all fish can jump. I would go to a glass shop and have them cut a glass to your size. If it was me, I would then cut it in half so I can open one side as I please.

What size tank are we talking? Like said, any/all fish could get spooked and fly out. Really take a leap of faith for a fancy goldfish, but it's still possible. I have covers on all my tanks for protection and to slow evaporation.

Yes, they could. Not very likely, but that's not something I'd say will never happen! I had an overexcited killifish literally fly out of its tank and nail me during morning feeding at work, and my huge tinfoil barb has jumped over the top brace of the tank while I was cleaning it.
