Ihave a 29g right now but i plan on upgrading it i was just wondering if i could get a couple of juievinile Bala Sharks and 2 Clown Loachs(Little Ones):shake:

Balas need a very big tank. A minimum of 150 gallons is often quoted. They also only tend to do well in larger groups of 5 or more. Clown loaches are in the same boat. I would wait until you get a bigger tank before buying them.

I would stick to smaller fish with that setup.

I had an Oscar once back in the day in a 20 gallon tank, that poor Oscar was as long as the tank was wide. Ever since I got rid of him I have been very good about not overcrowding my tank, besides if you had a 125 gallon tank woudn't you rather have about 20 corydoras and a school of rummynose tetras and schools of this and that instead of just 5-10 oscars or some other big fish (like balas and old clown loaches).

Even when they are small, balas are really skittish jumpy fish for that size tank. You might be able to get away with growing out a little school of clowns though, but only if you are postive about the upgrade.

Yeah, the reason it is never good to get a fish that will gorw big without a suitable tank to put it in is that you never know what the future will bring. You may plan for a bigger tank but you never know what may come up. I would hold off until you get the big tank and buy the balas and clowns then.

If you are planning to "upgrade", get them. They grow real slow. Very skittish too so no quick movement in front of the tank.
I have a 46 w/5 balas. Once they get bigger, I'll get a bigger tank.
I don't see any reason to put them in a 100+ tank now. The tank would look empty.

i wouldn't recommend either, but i'd say get 3 clown loaches if you can upgrade down the line a little more strongly than i would balas. firstly, as tkos mentioned, balas NEED to be in decent-sized schools AND they grow quite large. even when they're small, they need more space than a 29g can offer. clown loaches tend to grow verrrrrrry slowly once they hit 4" or so IME, so you *could* get them (don't get less than a trio), if you could upgrade to a larger tank in a year or two.

that said, i would personally not do it and ultimately advise against it. i wouldn't keep either, even as juveniles, in less than a 4' tank, ala your standard 55g. even that tank will not suffice when they are half their adult sizes. tkos makes the most crucial points.
