coupla questions for the experts......

I would recomend spending the $15 and just using synthetic salt. It might save you trouble down the line. The people at the aquarium probably use bay water for display tanks housing local organisms. I think the bay water is around 50-56F which is much to cold for reef organisms. I don't know the physiology of all those little creatures in that water but I bet if you increase the temp by 25 degrees its going to do something to their survivability. You might end up with a bloom of some kind or you might end up with water containing lots of organics. Either result is not that good.

Again I dont' know a lot about this but I would just spend the $15 on salt. There are too many variables that can not be controlled when using natural sea water, which is why many of us probably don't do it. Thats my opinion. I could be very wrong as I do not know much about this.

Good luck with everything

wow!! you guys are awesome!! thanks for all the replys! Wattsd, you bring up a really good point.....when "playing" wit all the critters in there hands on touch pools, i do notice the water is so cold, it almost burns(if that makes sense) so i think ill stick to the instant ocean im using now. i was just curious if it was possible. once again thanks!!! :thm:
