That sounds like the most logical theory so far. A LFS I was at yesterday had a sign by their livestock tanks, with a few little lightning bolt "shock" symbols, and "do you have a ground probe?" as a reminder to not forget this potential lifesaver.

Then again, if your theory is correct (one person getting zapped, the other gets zapped touching the first person), I suppose that would mean that, in addition to not having a ground probe, the tank was not plugged into a GFCI outlet.

Debisbooked, I have to thank you for that. Holy cow, was that funny! I added a post, seems they forgot about us SW folks so... I took the liberty of inventing LIVE rock with string. All kidding aside, I'm sad for the couple that died, wish we knew what actually happened.
 
Yeah, Blinky, their deaths are sad. I am not taking their deaths lightly. They must have been a funloving couple, because one, they were "fish" people, and two, they had friends who cared enough to climb through a window to find them. It would be good to know what exactly happened, so that fish people everywhere could avoid the same mistake.
 
most likely some kind of electrical malfunction...........always use a "breaker type" power strip.....electricity is one part of fish keeping i dont mess with...... i use all the safety precautions i know of!!!
