I have my 135G tank set up and cycled.

I bought a baby pleco today and have put him in a quarantine tank that is also ready to go.

My questions are; 1) how long do/should I keep him in the QT before its "safe" to put him in my large tank?

2) when i have to do WC's to the large tank, which is the most efficient way to ADD water BACK to the tank? Today I bought a Python with the 25ft hose range.

Thanks guys!!

1. It is recommended to qt for a month of health (meaning if it becomes ill, you qt for a month after treatment is complete).
2. Use your python, before adding water add your water conditioner to the tank dosed for total volume of tank. Be sure to match the temp of your tank.
congrats on the new pleco, be sure to post pics!

Thanks for the info...I was worried about putting the tap water directly into the tank but if its a proven method then I think I'll be alright.

The Pleco is about 1 inch long...he's gonna think the 135G tank is an ocean!

thats what I do, I add the amount of prime needed for the full tank and then fill up with the python. Just keep track of the temperature.

Yep, QT for 2-4 wks of health.....I add directly to the tnl with my python, matching temps as close as I can.

Thanks alot everyone! Its very tempting to put the pleco in the main tank thought!! I wanna get this thing started!!

Ive been thinking about what im going to put in the tank. about 10 tetras (not sure what kind yet) 4 Pictus Cat Fish, one Red tailed shark and one oscar. 135G tank.

Any thoughts? I know the tetras could become bait...but i could always replace.

If there is nothing in your large tank, it would be OK to use it as part of your initial stocking. If there are already fish in the large tank, you risk all of them by not using the QT first.

The pleco is the first fish to go into the tank.

Also i posted about having One Oscar, One Red Tailed Shark, Four Pictus Catfish and 10 Tetras in the tank.....what do you guys think about that? I know its an aggressive pick but having said that do you think they would all "survive".

Nope. Whatever tetra species you have, the pictus catfish and oscars can easily eat them. Also, pictus catfish and the shark will not stand abuse from the oscar if it becomes aggressive.
