CP terraium - Plants only

Well, I guess you could always wait to transplant. Both sarracenia and VFT are slow growers from seed (5 years until a mature plant). I just think it would be easier to keep everything separate from the start. I'd also check to see if you could find other sources of seeds. They're relatively inexpensive and buying your own pots and media wouldn't put you back much either.

Here's some good info on growing from seeds as well as general info:

Oh wow 5yrs??? Dang and I thought succulents grew slow lol. Hmmmm making me think twice about growing from seed lol. Do venus fly traps have any special needs??? I have always favored VFT's over the rest of the CP's

Yep...put them in a bag in the fridge, keep them most but not wet, then pull them out in the spring. There's a couple good articles out there...I'll see if I can find them again.

Hey Ger, there is a way to speed up Sarrs by a few years...

Seed-to-flower normally takes 5 years but can be speeded up by skipping dormancy the first year and transplanting when the plants are 1 and 2 years old. Skipping dormancy is done by growing the seedlings in a terrarium at 25°C during the day and very bright light - low to intermediate light levels lead to malformed pitchers. They reside in the terrarium from germination (Spring year 0) to the start of the Summer in year 1 at which time they're repotted for the first time (make sure the first real root is buried in the soil when repotting). Acclimatise to the conservatory / greenhouse and let them experience the first dormancy in Autumn and Winter. Transplant in the following early Spring, at this point they will be big enough for an individual container. From now on they're treated as normal plants - flowering can occur from the third year this way.

I think I might try this with some seedlings I am possibly getting.

All Sarracenia sp. do since they are from North America as well as some dews (intermedia, rotundifolia, filiformis, anglica, etc.) that are from the states/Canada. There are certain Pings (butterworts) that go through a dormant, succulent stage. Not sure what temperate Utrics do...and of course VFTs.

Even CPs from warmer temps go into dormancy when the weather gets too warm and dry. Pygmies and tuberous drosera for example.

Guess what I did today?
Moved my 4 new neps into 1 exo terra.
I also recieved a package containing a TDS meter.
I checked my...
Tap water: 93ppm
Brita water: 65ppm
RO/DI water: 0ppm
waste water from RO/DI: 130ppm
pretty cool
also got an email back from black jungle saying that they corrected the Kongkanda, they had forgotten the second 'k'.
As for my first day completely off tomorrow, I'm going to be replanting some plants!
