CP terrarium thread, continued

yeah, thanks, I'm trying to decide if I should try one in my new tank... it's a tough call.

I totally hear that. The biggest things I can think of having CPs in a tank are water and critters. Remember that CPs need distilled water as the minerals/etc in regular water will burn out the roots. If there's going to be critters in the tank, the waste can end up doing the same thing. Traditionally for Lowlanders, you want to have temps in the 80s(ish), and humidity 70ish or above. Other than that, they should be pretty easy.

yeah, except I had read that this particular plant has adapted to make use of decomposing leaf litter and other nutrients. Forest crabs often make their home in them... and they are from wetlands that would likely not have RO-type water. All things considered, I thought of all the CP's I've looked into, they were the most possibly successful ones I could try. The tank would have critters, and waste. But it has crabs, and I have a spot for this plant that would get far less access to the waste water, and would rely more on frequent mistings.

I'm not so sure I mind if the plant fails, I think I'm more worried about it eating the crabs. lol.

Nice... sounds like it would be well adapted to a tank then. Don't know whether it could eat the crabs or not. I guess it would depend on their size and whether or not they could crawl into the pitchers.

Awesome article! I don't consider adding to the knowledge base hijacking. =) Please feel free to add to the discussion!

Pretty cool article. Will you be getting any of those crabs?
N. amp does live in a poor nutrient areas, doesn't mean there are zero nutrients. They have adapted to digest leaf litter because they sometimes grow below the level of the leaf litter and it just falls in. I also read that they can almost live in waterlogged conditions.
If your thinking about buying from that link, you might want to check out www.blackjungleterrariumsupply.com, they are actually really close to you and cheaper. I've bought mostly all my plants from there, fast shipping and great plants.
