Craigslist 40 Gallon Journal

well lighting wise i think mosst of the questions have been answered, but on the cleaning but i think that the white vinegar water mix would probably be safer but thats just me.

stock wise you will probably get some bias ideas on that. personally i think a nice big school of some type of tetra (maybe one of the less common ones like ember or something) a good school of loaches then a center piece fish (again this is open).

btw i'm noticing a horse theme to the room i'm taking it you like them lol.

What are the tanks measurements?
Something like 36X12X21.

Well for $150 your on your way, have you decided what filter to buy for it? Your dog is just the right size and color for my taste. Happy fish keeping:)

Haha! I was actually thinking about an aquaclear 70 since I'm so ahppy with the aquaclear I have on my 10 gallon.

cheaper option for lighting is to retro fit it with CFLs. that should get you more light, and be much cheaper than getting a new fixture.

tank looks and stand looks to be in good condition. not a bad idea to leak test it when it gets warmer outside.

if you think you didnt wipe off all the bleach/water, add a bit extra prime, that will cut the bleach right away.
Thanks for the tip!

I think I saw this a few weeks back on craigslist.. Looks good! I definitely look forward to follow this 40g journey!
Thank you! Funny that you saw it too!

Why would it be safer? Thanks for the stocking suggestions. I like unique, yet I don't want to pay a bundle. Also, yes, I love horses! I've loved them as long as I can remember. Right now I'm leasing one actually!

What does everybody think about this stocking?

For angels, if I get 2 and they become a pair, will they harass other tank mates?

For tetras, probably Long-finned Black Skirt or Bleeding Heart, but suggestions are welcome, but tetras that are readily available and not too expensive!

For Dwarf Cichlids, bolivian rams or apistos

1-2 Angels
10 Tetras
1-2 Dwarf Cichlids

OR

1-2 Angels
10 Tetras
3-4 Platies

OR

1 Angel
10 Tetras
3-4 Platies
1-2 Dwarf Cichlids

What do you think? Any other suggestions? What do you think about the numbers of each of the fish? I want to have activity on all levels of the tank (top, middle, bottom.)

Anyone? If I get tetras I want to take advantage of the dollar sale at petsmart!

you definitely want to go with one angel, if you get 2 and they don't pair up it'll get pretty crowded, I'm not saying that it won't work but why take the risk?

I found black skirts to be kinda boring & a bit nippy. I haven't kept bleeding hearts, they look similar to serpaes, also nippy, but you can't tell by looking.

I'd think a horse lover should have horse faced loaches, said the loach lover, lol

I will probably only end up going with one angel then.

Black skirts are boring? In what way? Anybody else have input on bleeding hearts? I love horses, but I'm not really much of a loach person, but thats just me. :)

I cleaned my tank today with water and white vinegar. I mixed about a 50/50 solution of it and wiped down the whole tank with a paper towel that was soaked in the mixture. It also let the mixture drip down the sides. I then poured water all over the side of the tank to wash it off. Finally, I removed the water. I'm thinking about filling up the tank tonight with water.

I'm most likely going to go for this stocking. What does everybody think? Is the top of the tank going to be bare looking? Or will the tetras, angel, and platies swim up there too? Also, what does everyone think about bleeding hearts and angels?
