I've resealed several aquariums between 29gal and 150gal...I'm not sure what the issue is here. Just use a razorblade and scrape out all the old stuff (spot-patching doesn't work...if you're going to do it, do it all), clean the glass with acetone or rubbing alcohol, and put in a new bead of silicone. I generally use GE Silicone I for windows and doors, clear.
