So I am on the lookout for a cheap large tank, in the past 3 days on Craiglist I have found a 140G, 125G and 85G all going free. I have emailed all of the posters within hours of the post going up, and so far have gotten no responses.

Very frustrating, people must have some kind of system setup to track the word "free" on there that lets them know when a free tank appears.

Anyone else have bad luck with Craigslist?

When a nice free tank shows up, it's usually gone within 30 minutes. The first or second person to respond beats you to it. And to get it, you might have to be the first one there with a truck and a helper the same day or the next day. The person giving that away isn't going to hold it while others keep wanting it.

You can't expect something free offered on a site as big as craigslist to be around for long. You can always try using the RSS feed to give yourself a little edge.

I figured they would not last long, but its crazy how fast things go on there. I actually don't mind paying for a tank, but at the moment its either free, or expensive!

I have found 2 of my larger tanks free on craigslist (75 and 110) Both of the people offering these items have mentioned that I left more contact info on the listings (phone number mostly) and said that I would not believe the amount of response they recieved within an hour of posting the item. You have to pounce on them as soon as you see them and make sure you leave as much info about contacting you as possible. Hope this helps.

I emailed a guy 12 minutes after he put up his free add for a 25g on kijiji and he told me it was gone.

I am begining to hate craigslist.
I have had no luck with tanks that are barely a good deal let alone free.

It's all about timing. I see such great deals on there all the time when I don't have the money to get anything. Then, sure enough, when I have money to spend and I want to buy something... nothing.

I'm right there with you, though I'm just looking for cheap, not free, tanks and a canister filter. My turtles are all demanding bigger tanks, and a couple of them need a more powerful filter. I found a guy who was moving and selling about ten tanks, lights, filters, and a bunch of other stuff. He had at least ten things I could have used. He never replied to my email and he has now removed the ad.
