Crayfish and snails.......

I think he would try and eatyour snails unfortunately. You could put something like white cloud minnows in your tub.

If you could find some dwarf crayfish. Dwarf Cajun, or the Dwarf Orange Mexican Crayfish they might be less likely to eat the snails.

I know in general they are a lot more peacefull than the larger species and are safe with fish and shrimp... so maybe snails too.

Dunno- where are our cray experts?

I want to get some gambusia, too and I have two tubs. Maybe I'll put the gambusia in with the snails and leave the crayfish in his own tub.

Will the gambusia be okay with the trapdoor snails? Would the gambusia be okay with the crayfish? I'm trying to figure out how I can put these three species in two tubs safely.

Thanks for the help, everyone.

gambusia would be fine with the trapdoors, crays depending on species are ambush hunters so will take down small fish when possible. As mentioned above, dwarf crays are a possibility.

Yeah Dwarf Crays are more peaceful although I've seen a few munching on my Endler fry which will be similar size to your Mosquitofish fry. Still though I doubt they would take out the entire population, maybe just cull the weak and slow ones.

Aside from the above mentioned, also keep in mind that snails can carry parasites that can be fatal to a crayfish if ingested and not treated. So, not only is there a risk of you losing your snails, you could potentially lose your crayfish, too.

Anyway, try posting some pics of the cray and getting it IDed. Depending on the species, you may not have an issue at all... or you may have a big one. Hah. But really, a lot of questions can be solved with a species ID because it'll allow you to then find the typical behaviors, requirements, diets, etc of that species.
