Are blue crayfish particular about substrate... I mean... do they prefer sand or gravel, or not really care.

i use sand in mine and place a few rocks around, and it is really cool to see them dig out the sand. they also dig the sand a lot if you have MTS.

lol yeah i noticed.. just posted new thread on that... it ate all my MTS... all 7 of them over night... and now it keeps putting craters in the sand.. lol.... i guess MTS don't go good with crayfish... least not for habitation purposes.

It depends on the species of crayfish. Larger species such as P. clarkii, P. aleni, or any of the Cherax species (I currently have C. quadricarinatus), will eat snails. It does not matter if the snail has a trap door or not. They'll use their claws to break the shell open to get to the snail meat.

I frequently take a bunch of MTS out of my shrimp tanks and put them in with my crayfish, he really enjoys eating them.

i also have C. quadricarinatus and they just love ramshorn snails, but leave the guppies alone.

doesnt matter what substarate you use.
