crayfish?

those crayfishes at the store are cool but can they be put with neons and black neons?

I need info on their care...

water params:
*duh ammonia and nitrite are 0*
Nitrate-kept at 2~6ppm
pH-7.2
temp-a constant 76. Might go higher to a constant 78 though.

Try doing a search, through google and AC, do some reading about them and come back here to post SPECIFIC questions about them. It's not difficult and this is the quickest and most informative method, don't expect others to do YOUR research!

They will most likely eventually eat your neons. They also are netorious escape artist so must be sure to have no holes in your cover that he can crawl out of. Here is a link to a great resource on the blue species of crayfish but they also deal with regular ones as well. www.bluecrayfish.com
Also so as stated above and do a search for them. You will find tons of info here and on the web. I had one once but escaped after he ate most of my livestock so good luck if you do get one.

I saw some blues in the lfs the other day and instantly wanted one. The guy told me they would grown to 6 inches and eat all the fish in the tank so I decided against it. I have no idea what the heck you could have in the tank with them. I imagine the website fish_freak gave you can probably tell you all that.

I also dislike having things in my tank that can inflict bodily harm. lol And those claws look a little dangerous. Even when they're little. (For instance, I had a puffer once who took a chunk out of my knuckle and actually drew blood. He was an evil little runt. :Angel: )

Just you you all know not all blue crayfish will grow to six inches. Cherax destructor is from austrailia and is as far as I am aware the largest freshwater crayfish at about 8 inches. There normal color is acctually blue and not a genetic color morph. This species is one of the more common ones available in the US and the only one available for sale in the UK as all other species are listed as invasive there. Another popular variety available in the pet trade is the procambarus alleni which is raised on large farms in florida. The males stay a bit smaller but the females can get up to 6"
One of the less available ones in the trade is the orconectes immunis which only gets about 4". Most of these diffrent varieties I listed can be purchased off of the website I listed above. The owner of the site is a breader and other members also sell there stock on there.
