The strangest thing......i had a electric yellow and a gt and a red terror and a clown knife in my tank.....and i was looking in my tank cause i havent seen the knife out lately cause hes usually out when the feeders are gone looking for food....and hes gone....no where to be found.....i even looked under the cave and pots....hes just plain gone......and my gt and rt are to small to take out a big clown knife...and eat it before i would notice the fishes body? i just dont know

Have you checked the floor by chance? I've heard of it happeneing before. What size tank is this? Knifes get HUGE. And I forsee some possible aggression problems with the fish you in there in the future.

Yeah i would check all around the tank in the back and stuff to try to find something shrivelled that slightly resembles a fish :p Did you removed EVERYTHING out of the tank to check? I'm sure a clown knife could easily wedge himself in somewhere if he felt like it.

The electric yellow is unsuitable as a tankmate for the other fish as well, it needs different water conditions to remain healthy. Its an african riftlake cichlid from Lake Malawii, basically means a Higher pH (8ish at least) in the water and harder water. The others, knife included, like their water around a pH of 7 or neutral up to around 7.8. Another incompatability issue is simply that they come from different parts of the world, and both being cichlids they won't identify the threats or territorial displays of the others. Yet another is the RT and GT both get large, and more aggressive than the electric yellow, which will spell out the death of the electric yellow. Clown Knives, as mentioned get huge, Aquariacentral's profiles list them as getting to about 3ft, thats a very large fish, the GT,RT, and electric yellow would eventually be look at as food for this fish. MINIMUM tank size for these guys should be about 180gal.

yeah the knife is gone....i dont understand it....but i was planning on getting rid of him anyways......and its kinda funny but the electric yellow is showing most of the aggression....the outhers just swim away when he chases them.. but i was kinda hopein he would do ok in their cause i have a smaller 29 gallon but i have 2 baby electric blues going in their....and i dont think they like the higher ph......but id hate to get rid of my electric yellow...hes a cool energitic fish

i also wanted to ask.....what would be anouther food to feed my gt's and yellow cichids...i feed them brine shrimp right now...and i kinda figure theirs somthing else they would enjoy so maybe somthing i could switch days with....something better then flakes..i hate flakes...they dirty the water

well to go back to what the thread orginally started at...i finally found my clown knife.....the cat draged it from behind the tank....it got out some how....beats me how it got out of the tank....the tank is completly covered...shrug :mad2

I wont get into compatibility issues with your 'africans' and 'new worlds'. The yellows and electric blues DO like high ph, the lake they come from is lake Malawi in africa and it has a natural high ph and hard water.

but

i once found a shrivelled danio in my hallway that must have jumped out and then my cats found it and played with it for a while. It was all covered in dust bunnies so they must have found it behind the tank :D
