Hey everyone,
I want to make my 75 gallon into an amazon tank. Ive read a bunch of articles on how and what to put in it. However, I am somewhat new with plants and need a little direction on what type and how much plants I would need. And the different lighting. I was thinking about putting a about 5 or 6 piranha in the tank. Ive had experience with similar fish and all kinds of others. What sorts of driftwood should I use. Also, what kind of substrate should I use. I read about all this but maybe someone will have first hand and their experiances. I would appreciate a little guidence. Thanks for the ideas and help

you may get more replies in the plant forum

Amazon tanks are really hard to do. You have to match the proper land and aquatic plants together. Plus there are a number of different types of amazon tanks (flooded, river...ect).

and there are lots of options depending upon river you pick.

I have done microgeophagus ramirezi tanks (about 10 at one time at peak). They are different than the Severum oriented tanks I also have. If you go for larger eartheaters you have a different equation.

What species are you going to keep?

I love Amazon tanks. I have a 70 gallon with just a little less than 3 watts per gallon. My swords are all nice and green and growing.

Hopefully I'll complete my new 150 gallon this month. I'll have just over 3 watts per gallon and will have swords.

Although you can't buy from them, tropica.com might help you. They have a sizeable list of plants that you can view, each telling you the country of origin, water requirments and tolerances etc. Other than that I would keep looking around online if you don't get enough info on these forums.

If they're red belly, that's too many piranhas for a 75 gallon. They grow fast and some will get eaten.
