Creating an Interesting 20 gal

yo authmal!^

dude, the inch per fish rule doesn't apply anywhere in the fish world!:)

bc if u think about it, the bio-load matters more than size, bc u wouldn't keep a 2ft long pleco in a 30 gallon tank? would u?

so, it could easily be done, shrimp really don't have a bio-load, so u can have like 100s in 5 gallon tanks, with no issues:)

so it seems fine to me

i would cut both nano fish schools to 10 each,

Mr. Catfish, do you recommend any particular place to get Bluespots? I was looking at Sachs out of St. Augustine, but $35 for four fish plus shipping is a little steep sounding to me.

I live in Florida and have a freshwater fishing license, but I just moved from rural Central Florida to the Tampa Bay area, so I'm not sure of any good swamps around here. I've caught bluespotted sunfish on accident before, which is what sparked my interest, but whenever I've tried catching them again on purpose I've had no luck.

What would be a smaller, native crayfish species? The Electric Blues are medium size (I think) and are from Florida, so would they go well with the Bluespotted Sunfish?

I highly suggest joining the NANFA forum. Loads of collectors over there that I'm sure would be happy to share sites with you...

I would try catching your own first. Then if that don't work ask over one the NANFA forum. As said before the forum is free. As for Sachs shipping is included in the price shown. I have ordered from them before and they a great to work with. The electric blue should be ok with adult bluespotted sunfish.

Thanks man. I'll try to catch my own, but I live in an area that's really urban and surrounded by saltwater for right now. I'm only 3 hours from St. Augustine, so it might be worth it to take the girlfriend on a "date weekend" up there to see the sites and pick up the fish without paying for shipping.

And I come out smelling like a rose :) (the girlfriend is a history major, and St. Augustine is the first American City, so that's an instant win haha).

One more question, and then I'll update this with my "build":

How does this stocking sound?

4 - Bluspotted Sunfish
1 - Blue Crayfish
1 - Speckled Madtom Catfish (or more if they need groups)
Perhaps even a few mosquito fish? Might be overkill.

My landlady's got some tadpoles in her pond, could I throw those in the 20 (now I'm pushing it probably)?

I've never kept natives, so I'm not sure what they're like to keep and how much space they need.

I think those would be fine, not sure on how big the cat gets or if it needs groups, otherwise it should be fine, i thiknk the cray might attack/prey on the tads

Your stock sounds fine. The only concern I would have is the crayfish going after the madtom.Add hiding spots with more than one entrance or exit will help the madtom escape the cray.Plus keep the crayfish well feed. I wouldn't go with anything more than 4 bleuspotted sunfish,a crayfish, and a speckled madtom.
