Guys,
I been doing quite a bit of reading and have read a fair few posts on the crushed coral issue. I am not new to the hobby as this is my third marine tank, others have had to go due to moving out etc. I have about a 1 inch layer of crushed coral followed by quite a thick layer of fine sand (around 2 inch). What do you guys think of this and will it cause any problems later on.

You can imagine how hard its going to be if i have to remove it as it will prob involve tearing the whole lot down.
Cheers guys.

what size tank is this in? You could possibly remove it a bit at a time by removing some and sifting it? then replacing the sand? How long has this tank been set up. Personally I would think about replacing it. A dirty job but one that will reap benefits later. You could also use more sand to create a dsb......which needs about 4 inches

The problem is that the c.c. can work it's way up over time. It's going to be a real pain to remove all that sand and sift though so, I'd probably just keep a close eye on it and see if it starts working up. As lorna also stated with the amount of sand you have there isn't much denitrification going on anyway so....
Let us know what you decide
