Hey Max I hope you read this thread. Everything in my tank is doing great. It has only been active about 2 months. It is a 46 gal. bow front. You have me worried about the crushed coral. I have the fine crushed coral in it and I want to change it to sand after reading what you said about crushed coral. But how? I am thinking about taking a little out every day until it is almost gone then start adding sand. What is your opnion? How should I change from crushed coral to sand?

A lot of the good bacteria is on your crushed coral. rather than remove it all over time and then replace it, I would suggest you change it over on stages. Use something to create a front to back divider and then swap out about 1/3 every 7 days.

You should be able to use a hose/syphon to get the coral out.

Agreed. You don't want to remove all the bacteria at once, so gradually remove the crushed coral and replace it with sand. This way, the bacteria will multiply onto the sand as you go.

It would probably be a lot easier for you to get cloth bags and save about 1/3 of the c.c. in the bags. Remove them one at a time over a few weeks to avoid shocking your tank. If you can get arogonite sand if you can't just use plain old silica you'll have a diatom bloom but it will be over in a few weeks. I hope this is what you're looking for you want you sand to be mostly be very fine like sugar.
hth and if you have any questions let me know. I'm right in the middle of my c.e. for work so if you don't get satisfactory answers send me apm.

Thanks,,,,,,,,,,,This should not be to hard to do. Remember I am new with saltwater. And everything is doing so good. I just want to be extra careful. :)
