Crushed Coral or Sand?

Well, I would like to do that if I had more room, but its only a 12g nano. The sand is about an inch high all the way around, little higher in some spots. I think imm gonna leave it like that for right now.
Wont the live rock I have do the exact same thing? I currently have 10lbs, but im looking to getting another 2 to 5 lbs of cured live rock.

I think either CC or Live sand is good to use. Both of these beds may cause some algae to rise but I dont think that is a bad issue because they will be some very small creatures to eat it and may help our tank in balance. I have lots of them in my CC running here and there. Algae is natural.
The most important thing is it will give us another task to clean the CC because it may cause nitrate (from waste) to rise fast. Also, the good thing about CC is it will be easier to clean compare to sand.

CC is usually a nitrate sink, I stay away from it.
Sand is better, I use aragonite.
In a small tank like that I'd keep 1/2-1" rather than a DSB that does need to to be 4" or deeper(I usually do 5-6") to be effective.
Shallow and vac/clean it, or DSB and never touch it other than very surface.
Just make sure to keep shallow sand creatures in there.
I'd do about 12-15lbs of LR too.
