Hello,

I just added about a cup of crushed coral in my canister filter hoping to raise my PH. If this work, how long will it take the PH to rise in my tank. Currently, the PH is 6.8 and my goal is about 7.0 - 7.5.

Here are my specs:

3" Red Devil

50 gal
Fluval 304
Aqua Clear Powerhead 50
Arizona Flagstone
Driftwood
Ammonia: 0
Nitrite: 0.25
Nitrate: 20 ppm
50 tablespoon of salt added

It is different with every tank and it's filtration. Let it change slowly.

Why are you adding salt?

The Nitrites are at a dangerous level, you need to do water changes to get them back to zero.

rbishop, thanks for the reply. Isn't it beneficial for my RD if salt is added & shouldn't it help prevent diseases? BTW, I did a water change minutes after I posted. Nitrites @ 0 and Nirate are @ 5ppm. Thx!

The Salt Addition is a myth, and long term will be detrimental to your freshwater fish. Salt has limited uses as a medication if there is something wrong, if nothing is wrong, salt will not do anything but harm your set-up.

The crushed cortal will take a few days to raise things up, and will quit dissolving at pH 7.6 or so so if your don't mind 7.6 You have nothing to worry about, just give it some time.
